Track & Field Complete Great Season

Each brought her own skills and enthusiasm to her events during practices and our four preliminary meets. By the time we reached the Zone Championships, the field had to narrow to the top two in each event. We had great success, finishing first in the female division. The Zone Championship was a great highlight to the season.

Twenty-eight of our athletes went on to qualify for Provincials, which were held in Nanaimo. Eight of these athletes were grade eights, there by invitation. Though they could win individual ribbons and medals, they could not contribute to our point total.

Provincials proved to be highly successful with several athletes posting personal bests and everyone giving all they had to their events. Andree Coschizza scored our first points with a sixth place finish in steeplechase. Kathleen Aitchison was sixth in the 1500m, Caeli McCabe in the 800m, and Sophie Morris in the 400m. Jessica Urban’s 5.05m jump took fifth place in long jump. Our best showings, however, were in two relays. The Junior A 4 x 100 relay consisting of Kathleen Aitchison, Lisa Lazzaris, Sophie Morris, and Jessica Urban took the gold medal. Kathleen, Sophie, and Jessica, with the addition of Caeli McCabe, repeated their performance to also take the gold medal for the Junior 4 x 400 relay.
