Provincial Champions

Our Senior Volleyball Angels peaked at the right moment and played inspired volleyball throughout the AAA Volleyball Provincial Championships to run away with the Championship this past weekend. It was as close to perfect volleyball as could be hoped for. They didn't lose a single set in the playoffs after winning all three games to top their pool.
LFA was ranked third going into the tournament. They'd played well all season. Among the highlights was winning the BC Catholic Championships, which--in itself--is an accomplishment. To pull of "the double" speaks to the quality of this year's team.

At Provincials, the Angels started with wins over RE Mountain and Nanaimo 2-0 in pool play. They then withstood a tough challenge against Seaton, surviving two match points to eventually win 17-15 in the third set.

Coach Ballard commented on how the complete dominance by our Angels at the tournament: "This was an amazing performance by my team. They were amazing. They only lost one set in the whole tournament and that was in pool play to the eventual second place team."

Thinking back on the weekend, Ballard explained that, "Somehow my girls totally turned the switch for the playoffs. I have never seen them play with such energy and intensity and focus. This really allowed us to dominate every team we faced from the very first serve! The girls were relentless in their play and maintained maximum focus to keep the pressure on all of our opponents. We went on to beat Mark Isfeld, Timberline and Seaton in straight sets. Incredibly, the closest score was 18. It's unheard of. It was so truly dominant and I was so impressed by how they approached the games and how they played. Unbelieveable."

Jaclyn Miller '18 was awarded a 1st team all-star, Kristie Mar '17 was selected as top Libero and Jessica Goodridge '18 was selected as the Tournament MVP. Even though LFA had the three allstars, Ballard was quick to point out that, "it was truly a team effort and any one of my team could had been selected an all-star in my mind."

The Provincial Championship is the second in four years for LFA.

Congraulations, Angels!!
