The Results Are In
The BC Ministry of Education recently shared some statistics with us on last year's Class of 2016 and they are truly extraordinary. Every graduate from last year was recognized with BC Honours Standing. The Ministry also awarded more than 75% of the Class of 2016 with the BC Achievement Scholarship.
It's not uncommon that a very high percentage of our grads will be recognized with the BC Honours Standing from the Ministry. It is remarkable for every single student to be recognized. The government explains that to receive Honour Standing, "a graduating student [will have] an outstanding level of achievement and will have the phrase "Achievement with Honours" included on her or his transcript."
The BC Achievement Scholarship is a $1250 scholarship, which is awarded to the top 8000 students in the province in a given year. The Ministry determines recipients based on their achievement in Grades 10, 11, and 12, including elective courses. Students don't apply for the scholarship. Student eligibility is confirmed by the Ministry, who simply calculate the cumulative average percentage for every student in BC.
