Congratulations to LFA’s public speaking team who truly shone last weekend at BC’s Provincial Speech Championships. Each and every member of the team excelled. In a competition with over eighty students, Asha Mior '20 placed second overall in the senior division and Natalie Viegas '22 placed second overall in the junior division.
Asha won the first place medal for interpretative reading, second place in persuasive and made finals for impromptu speech. Joyce Chen '21 placed third overall in the senior category, and won third place in impromptu and persuasive, in addition to making finals in impromptu, persuasive and interpretative. Maya Lan '20, ninth overall, made finals in the solo acting category. Both Joyce and Asha were two of the six who qualified to represent BC at Senior Nationals in Winnipeg in February.
Natalie Viegas, second overall junior speaker won first overall in junior impromptu as well as making finals in impromptu, persuasive and interpretive. Maria Zen Baxter '22, who placed fourth overall in the junior category, won second place medals for her solo and impromptu speeches after making finals in these categories. Maia Mior '22 placed ninth overall in juniors and she, along with Maria and Natalie, qualified to compete at Public Speaking Nationals in the spring.
Each student put in many long hours practicing and all their hard work paid off in this incredibly strong showing. Well done Angels!
