The Angels team travelled to St Thomas More to battle the Knights for the league championship. To get a sense of how closely linked these two teams have been recently, one only needs to know that last night's game was the fifth time in a row that the 2019 grads from both schools will have faced each other in their age-group finals. STM took last night's senior league championship; LFA won at bantam and twice at junior.
LFA was playing with a severely restricted roster. Indeed, essentially with five players. They started off a bit slowly and uncharacteristically missed some makeable shots and could not quite get enough defensive stops.
STM’s height and, noticeably, their ability to substitute players throughout their deep line-up wore down the Angels quickly and they took an insurmountable 44-14 half-time lead. A testament to the heart and fight we so often see in our teams, the Angels responded in the second half, and kept it really close--only outscored by three (33-30). The final score was 77-44.
The Angels will have to regroup and try to get healthy enough to play in the lower mainland qualifying wild card game Monday. Go Angels!
