Angels Run for Chef Paul

Each year our senior Phys Ed class organizes a school run in support of cancer research. This year, and just weeks before our run, the community was deeply saddened at the sudden news of Chef Paul's cancer diagnosis. The girls and community re-doubled our efforts to raise money for Paul and his family as part of our Run for the Cure. We are so pleased to celebrate with you that more than $4000 was raised during our run to go with the thousands that were given by our community to his GoFundMe efforts.
The Run for the Cure day was special because of our efforts to support Chef Paul. That said, the day itself involved all sorts of new initiatives. This seventh annual event included a glow-in-the-dark dance party. Mrs. Bryde’s Foods 12 class collaborated with the PE classes and hosted the first ever Food Truck Competition, donating all of the proceeds to the cause. The ever-popular, "pie-your-teacher" event also attracted the crowds, raised some money, and got a number of people very sticky.

We are so happy to share the update that Chef Paul is doing well. We were so pleased to have him and his wife join us for our Graduation ceremony this year. He noted that there is still a long road ahead, but the community was overjoyed to see him looking so well and to have him share the day with us.

Background
For those of you who are new to the community and don't know Chef Paul, he worked at Little Flower for 11 years and became a beloved member of our school community. Paul embraced the school and our culture. He knew every student by name... and their cafe card number. He graciously participated in countless student council skits. He gave tirelessly to the school community and generously shared his gifts and spirit.

Paul and his wife retired to rural BC last autumn. We were shocked to learn that Paul underwent emergency surgery in mid May to remove a tumour from his brain. While showing positive signs towards recovery, Paul will need to receive ongoing treatment. As medical services are limited near his home, Paul and his wife will need travel for treatment, placing a significant financial burden on the Godidek family.
