Return to School Overview

We hope you and your families have stayed well and have adjusted to the many changes over the last few weeks.  Students have responded amazingly well as we have transitioned to online learning and seem to be well prepared for our final weeks of school.

With Friday’s announcement of the Ministry of Education’s K-12 Education Restart Plan, parents have been given the choice of sending their children back to school on a part-time basis, starting June 1. At the high school level, the 20% participation target means students may return to school one day per week. While we are excited for the return of students to our hallways and classrooms, we will be using the next week to finalize plans to ensure the restart of school is as safe as possible. Once our plans are approved by the Ministry of Education, specifics will be sent home to families. In the meantime, we have outlined a tentative plan to help families make the decision regarding their daughter’s return to school.
Students returning to school will be assigned to multi-grade groupings which will attempt to accommodate families with more than one daughter at LFA. As classroom density needs to be reduced to under 50%, and social distancing guidelines need to be considered, there will be a maximum of 15 students in a classroom.

As per the guidelines developed by the BC Centre for Disease Control, students will stay in one classroom and will be under the supervision of one teacher for the duration of the day, including lunch.  The teacher assigned to your daughter’s classroom may or may not be one of her regular teachers.  As the dining hall has been closed for the duration of the school year, students will need to bring lunch with them to school and will be eating in their assigned classroom, under the supervision of their teacher.

Curriculum Delivery Format Continues As Is

During the final weeks of classes, teachers will continue to deliver the curriculum through our online platforms to all students, whether they are learning from home or attending classes on campus. Students attending classes on campus, will be provided with a Chromebook for use during the day, and will be joining her classmates and teachers remotely.

Classes for Monday, June 1 have been cancelled so that all students may participate in the Graduation Liturgy and Graduation Ceremonies which will be livestreamed from the school. Links to view the livestream graduation activities will be posted on the school’s website. As previously scheduled, classes will resume Tuesday, June 2 and will conclude on Friday, June 12.

During these two weeks, students will be attending their final classes and completing their final assessments.  These assessments have been designed for remote learning and will be delivered online. During the week of June 15-19, students who require additional time to complete grade level requirements, will be invited to the school to receive additional support. All other students will be given a time during that week to return textbooks and clear out their lockers. The schedule for textbook return and locker cleaning is available here (and posted to the school website).

Students attending classes on campus will be expected to be in their full school uniform, and they will be asked to follow a number of protocols designed to protect the health and safety of everyone in our school community. These directives will be sent to students choosing to return to school once our plans have been approved by the Ministry of Education.

Return to School Survey

To assist us with our planning, please take a moment to complete the our School Restart Planning Survey (available on the Parent Page --login required-- or in the email sent to parents on May 18) by Wednesday, May 20. Families choosing to send their daughters to school in June MUST respond to the survey.  Students will not be permitted at school if they have not registered for in-class instruction through the attached survey. Detailed information for students choosing to return to school will be sent home prior to June 1.

In his encyclical Laudato si', Pope Francis called each of us to Care for Our Common Home. His words have never been more poignant.  Covid-19 has reminded us of our connectedness and of our common home. Please stay well, be happy, and look after one another.
