Long Time LFA Coach Passes Away

We are very sad to share the news that long time LFA volunteer field hockey coach, Eustace De Souza, has passed away. Coaching our Senior A Field Hockey team for 14 years, he will be remembered for his commitment to the team and his kind, professional approach to fostering the success of our program.
Fellow coach Ali McGillivray remembers Eustace:

For over a decade, Eustace was such an important part of the LFA hockey community. From his daughter’s (Sachi) Grade 9 year, and for years after she graduated, I was so lucky to have him coach the Senior A team with me. He worked tirelessly to help the players improve their skills and play hard, but what stands out to me was his emphasis on the more important lesson: love the game and the people you’re playing with. I know that LFA's first Provincial Championship in field hockey (in 2001) was due to his great knowledge of the game. Throughout, Eustace volunteered his time selflessly, coming to practices and games after finishing work at BC Children's. He took personal holiday to come annually to the Bridgeman Cup in Victoria and provincial tournaments wherever they were held. I know that Eustace will be missed by all the field hockey coaches at the school who were fortunate to know him, though his loss will be felt more widely with the hundreds of players and their parents who loved him and the wider field hockey community in BC.

Eustace De Souza Memorial Field Hockey Scholarship
We have started a Little Flower Academy Scholarship in memory of our Dad who thoroughly enjoyed his 14 years of coaching the girls at LFA. Dad valued well-rounded athletes who excelled at school, sport, and sportsmanship. He was an avid supporter of education, particularly Catholic education.
