Angels Clip Gryhpons

On a stunning afternoon in Victoria, our LFA Senior field hockey team managed to get by the Glenlyon Norfolk Gryphons in a wonderfully competitive game.
In a largely even match, it was GNS that struck first. On a short corner in the first few minutes of the game, a bouncing hit across the face of goal was deflected of a GNS stick and into the back of goal. It was really after the goal that the rhythm of the game emerged, where LFA opted for a small game development through the midfield and GNS sought out longer, searching balls to their effective forward line. The the styles were different, it made for some very entertaining hockey.

LFA finally found their groove in the second half. The managed the middle of the field better and cleaned up some of their zone coverage. As the ball made its way through the midfield, Lucie Fabre '22 and Shannon Stelling '24 made their presence felt. Alicia Lung '23 also began to assert a level of dominance with some piercing runs at the GNS defenders. A very clumsy tackle on Alicia led to a short early in the second half. A strong out from Jo Fitch '23 was handled nicely by Alicia, who rocketed a shot in on goal to bring the score even. Charlie Kan '22, Christina Do '24 and Emma Luft '22 all had glorious opportunities in the D and around goal, but were unable to find the trigger. A second goal could not be denied as LFA poured on the pressure through the second half.

In the end, it was probably a fair result on for a game well played by both teams. A huge thanks is owed to GNS for graciously hosting us as we ventured to the Island for the day. It's always a joy to play them!
