Alumnae Athletes Shine

Three of our alumnae featured in recent issues of La Petite Fleur continue to shine in their respective sports. Ceili McCabe '19 is turning heads in the running world with an NCAA season that has her competing at the 2021 NCAA Cross-Country Championships in Tallahassee, Fla. Meanwhile, two LFA field hockey alumnae--Mikayla Stelling '21 and Allison Kuzyk '20--are off to represent Canada at the Junior World Cup in South Africa in early December.
Ceili was a multisport athlete at LFA, though her running prowess was on full display throughout her high school athletics career. She went to West Virginia, where she instantly made an impact. However, her third year at West Virginia has been something special. She was only seconds of the Olympic qualifying time in the 3,000m steeplechase in the spring. This autumn, she's won four straight NCAA XC meets on her way to qualifying for this year's NCAA Cross-Country Championships. She is a contender to win it all. If she can pull it off, she would be only the third Canadian woman to do so. If you'd like to read more about Ceili's season, Canadian Running magazine has a feature Ceili that's just come out.

Mikayla Stelling '21 and Allison Kuzyk '20 have both been named to Canada's Junior National Field Hockey Team for the upcoming Junior World Cup. Mikayla wrapped up her freshman season as a starter with the UBC Thunderbirds. She been training with the national team squad for much of the summer and was a dominant player at the late-summer India Club tournament in Surrey, BC. Allison has been playing in the NCAA for the Ivy League University of Pennsylvania. Kuzyk played in all 16 games in her first non-COVID collegiate season this year, finishing third on the team in points. Penn was very excited to celebrate Allison's achievement on their website. Their pool play has them up against Uruguay on Dec. 5th, England on Dec. 6th and Belgium on Dec. 8th. You can follow the action on the Field Hockey Canada website.
