Angels showcase depth winning first league game

Coach Allan
The Angels were down to 3 guards with Lauren out with shin splints, Hannah nursing an injury and playing limited minutes and Elise gone to the senior team. Despite this, the Angels played well and had a 25 point lead before we took off the press and eased up allowing Crofton to make the game appear closer than it was.
The Angels only had 4 guards to start the game and were down to 3 when Hannah suffered cramps and had to sit on the bench for long stretches of the game. Kim took over as the primary ball handler and did a very good job of protecting the ball and setting up the offence. Carmen put in a solid effort at guard and contributed some key baskets. Mikayla showed her athletic ability on the defensive side of the ball and was a strong threat in transition.

Once again the Angels front court showed their strength and significantly outrebounded Crofton. Alexis provided strong transition play and scored several layups on partial breakaways. Vanessa had a strong game and once again Emily was an intimidating presence inside. The Angels pressed when the lead was under 20 points and had some success creating a number of turnovers. The large lead allowed the team to experiment during the game and Brooke showed strong defence as well in taking on Emily's rim protector role.

Natalie scored just inside the 3 point line on a nice play and showed her play is rising with her increasing confidence. Kate Lynn did her best Tim Duncan impression by scoring a number of baskets off the glass and she provided good defence.

This game was a very satisfying win as the whole team showed strong play and team depth showed we can overcome the loss of key players and others will step up and rise to the challenge. Most notable was Kim taking over for Hannah in the 3rd quarter and scoring 10 points in the quarter! Team depth was underscored by every single player hitting the score sheet.
