Angels Win BC Catholics Opener

The BC Catholic tournament at Holy Cross is always a fun event to play or attend. It’s an electric atmosphere. Indeed, it can feel deafening at times, where Holy Cross students bang on drums (or what they can get their hands on) to cheer on the teams. It's all the more amazing that the atmosphere is nearly as good, even when their Crusaders are not playing.

The Senior Basketball Angels played their opening game against St John Brebeuf Bears, coming away with a key win.
Kayla Canama ’19 started the scoring with a three. It was the early catalyst, as the Angels built up a 13-1 lead before the Bears started to see their offence click. Although the Angels were the undersized team, it did not deter Ceili Mc cabe ’19 (our smallest Angel) from buzzing all over the court, and drawing oohs and aahs from a packed gym with her shooting prowess.

LFA built up a 36-22 half time lead. In the third, the Angel-edge continued: their ad lib offence and better positional defence just gave them the small advantage to keep consistently ahead. It should be noted that the SJB team did not give up, still playing hard even as the game started to slip away from them. All Angels got to see action and experience the pace of the game. The final score was 66-48 Angels.

Next up will be Friday at noon against the winner of the STM v St Pats game. All games are lived streamed! Follow along at holycross.bc.ca/catholics2019
