Angels Play in All Star Game

Parent Contributor
Last night the Lower Mainland Independent Secondary Schools Athletic Association League (LMISSAA) had an all-star game for both Junior and Varsity teams. In the varsity game, it was an opportunity to play one more high school basketball game and be to recognize for their stellar play throughout the season. The teams split into east and west, with LFA well-represented in the east by Ashely Velasco ’19, Alexis Fong ’19, Ceili McCabe ’19, Kayla Canama”19 and Maya Landero-Van ’20.
The game was lively and entertaining, as players who would normally be competing were now teammates. The girls clearly enjoyed the moment to have fun playing together, try different moves and passing plays. There many "oohs" and "aahs" moments and loads of laughter . The audience really enjoyed the spectacle as numerous occasions the quick crafty player would weave around the court then try to go up for a lay up only to be blocked by the taller defenders.

The West held an eleven-point lead at the half.  In the second half, the East got into a shooting rhythm and shots started to fall and the managed to take the lead. A memorable play (that Coach Bob would frown upon during the season) was Ceili driving to the hoop, then bounce the ball off the backboard with Ashley coming from behind, to catch the rebound and shoot it in--the perfectly executed alley-oop. The East ended up with a 71-67 win. Congratulations to all the girls and coaches for putting together a fine season.

Special thanks to Dave Pissinotti and York House for hosting.
