Giving Report 2020

Giving by the Numbers

Little Flower Academy is independent, relying on gifts to enrich the day-to-day experience and deliver all of our capital enhancements. There is no "other" funding from parishes or the Archdiocese. The tuition, annual giving, capital gifts and endowment support our community to such an extent that the young women at LFA are given a truly exceptional Catholic, girls' education: one of the best, anywhere in our country.

Annual Giving
Gifts are immediately invested in the programs, resources and opportunities that make an LFA education so exceptional. Gifts do more than cover a budgeted gap in funding. Gifts this year of more than $440,000 have provided the resources that make each girl’s experience extraordinary.

Visionary Giving
We continue to remake our beautiful campus to reflect the most current best practice for teaching and empowering young women. In addition to nearly $80,000 in capital projects, the LFA Foundation received more than $200,000 in endowment fund commitments this year. The LFA Foundation now manages approximately $1.3 million in endowed funds for the benefit of today's students. Both will serve future generations of young women seeking an exceptional, all girls' education in our community.

Walkathon and Viva Las Vegas
This year's Walkathon raised almost $60,000. The efforts of our students contribute to their own education and reinforce an understanding of community ownership. With the global pandemic turning our world upside-down, The Parents' Auxiliary was very disappointed to postpone their Viva Las Vegas event until next school year.

Fundraising Overview

Each year our school's Annual Fund provides the enrichment to each and every girls' experience. This past year, we've expanded Library holdings; brought in Campus Ministry and Counselling Department speakers; underwrote The Outsiders play which was cancelled due to COVID; provided new team uniforms and subsidized team travel to represent LFA at provincial championships; and, provided extra professional development opportunities to faculty. And that's just the executive summary!

While operating enrichment was down very slightly in 2019/2020, overall giving increased as designations to facility upgrades and our school endowment increased. Donor designations vary slightly year to year and reflect the vision and desired support of our amazing community.

There is no one profile of a donor who gives to Little Flower Academy, though all will have a connection to the work of the school, the impact it has on young women in our community, and the charism of the Sisters of St. Ann that still makes our school unique.

Endowment

The LFA Endowment Fund continues to grow through the commitment of wonderful people in our community. A threshold of investment and good professional investment counsel means this year's LFA Foundation disbursements will benefit both financial aid for families in need and resources for the school's 2020/2021 COVID Response Fund, which will include facility upgrades for student safety.

We would like to acknowledge and celebrate two new Family Endowments this year. The Jeanne (Gagnon) Comesotti '55 Endowment Fund was established in Jeanne's loving memory and will benefit students directly through awards and bursaries. The Le Billon Family Endowment is an area of greatest need fund, which will serve every student in our community in perpetuity.

Often through the years, graduating classes have given a gift to the school as thanks for what the school had given them. In 2012, eyeing the new endowment fund, a number of graduating parents and students gave a gift to start the first class fund to support financial aid at the school. The 50th Reunion of the Class of 1962 was in the school just after the Class of 2012 announced their gift and, in a beautiful moment of community action, they too pledged a gift. With that, two classes, 50 years apart, launched the Class Endowments to support financial aid. Several families from this year's Class of 2020 have added to the legacy, carrying on a special tradition that provides directly to our core value of accessibility. The collective endowment of the many class funds now disburses important financial aid to current students at LFA.
