Angels Run for the Cure: Students Can Run for Chef Paul This Year

Our community was deeply saddened to learn this week that Chef Paul is very ill. For those of you who are new to the community and don't know Chef Paul, he worked at Little Flower for 11 years and became a beloved member of our school community. Paul embraced the school and our culture. He knew every student by name... and their cafe card number. He graciously participated in countless student council skits. He gave tirelessly to the school community and generously shared his gifts and spirit.
Paul and his wife retired to rural BC last autumn. We were shocked to learn that Paul underwent emergency surgery last week to remove a tumour from his brain. While showing positive signs towards recovery, Paul will need to receive ongoing treatment. As medical services are limited near his home, Paul and his wife will need travel for treatment, placing a significant financial burden on the Godidek family.

Angels Run for the Cure
The Physical Education 12 classes have been organizing the Angels for the Cure run annually for seven years. Throughout this time, we have raised tens of thousands of dollars. Some years we've made our gift to the BC Cancer Agency and BC Children’s Hospital Oncology Department, especially as several students through the years have been recipients of their exceptional care. One year, when one of our students had a particularly challenging cancer mountain to climb, we gave our gift directly to the family.

This fall, we collected $2 from each student, with the intention of donating it to the BC Children’s Hospital Oncology Department at the conclusion of the run. However, on learning about Chef Paul's life-threatening battle with cancer, we will be giving the students the opportunity to direct the money they donated to either the Oncology Department or to a separate fund for Paul and his family.

Student-led Fundraising Continues
In additon to the funds already raised, Angels Run for the Cure will continue to raise funds on the day of the run, which will be May 24th. Students can bring cash or cheque donations to their homeroom teachers, purchase popcorn from the PE 12 students, or buy a ticket for a chance to pie-a-teacher.

A Fund for Paul
All money directed to Chef Paul will simply be given to the Godidek family to spend however they need. Because of the nature of this gift, we are unable to give a tax receipt for the gift. If you would like to give a gift by cheque, please make the cheque payable to Little Flower Academy: we will issue a single cheque to Paul for all the money raised.

If you would prefer, you can give to Paul and his family through a GoFundMe drive.

Prayers
Paul got to see our faith at work in the lives of our students, first-hand, for over a decade. He and his wife have expressed how much they value our prayers for his recovery. Please continue to keep Paul and his family in your prayers.
