Big Wins for LFA at UBC's 46th Physics Olympics

On Saturday, March 9th, LFA's Physics Olympics team attended UBC's 46th Physics Olympics, placing 5th out of 78 teams that competed this year!
LFA had some big wins at UBC's Physics Olympics on Saturday, March 9th.

LFA took first place at the Cool It Down pre-build event in their pool which included some tough competitors (McMath, Moscrop, Churchill, Byng, WV). Not only that, our Angels won by quite a large margin.

LFA also took first overall in the at-UBC hands on lab #1 called "keep it quiet". In the overall standings, LFA placed 5th out of 78 teams that competed this year.

"We assembled our team in October, my team worked hard for months to acquire and practice the skills needed to compete eye-to-eye against the best schools. This success is entirely their own. I did not lift a finger to help them build anything, although trust me, it was really hard for me to hold back! I only helped to lift/move the large (45lb) flywheel because I didn't want them to drop it on their fingers or toes. I'm hoping we'll get 1st place in one of the pre-build events next year!" - Mr. Chow

We're incredibly proud of the tremendous effort and achievements of our Physics Olympics team and Mr. Chow. Since it's construction, our STEAM Lab has served as a critical space for students to ideate, innovate, tinker, build, and learn. To see that dedication and those resources pay dividends for our girls at events like Physics Olympics, and in their education beyond LFA, never gets tiring. As LFA looks to reinvest in our campus and resources, we're excited for the innumerous opportunities it will create for our students.
