STA Tournament Game # 3 vs Holy Cross

Thrilling game got away from the Angels in the end
The Angels came into this game on a roll with three blowout wins but knowing that Holy Cross represented their toughest challenge yet.

The Angels got out to an early lead only to see Holy Cross pull ahead a few minutes into the game. Holy Cross got out to a double digit lead, but the Angels didn't panic and knew they were capable of winning the game. The double digit lead was brought down to 5 points and the team started to believe they could win the game.

Holy Cross got into foul trouble in the 3rd quarter and the Angels were in the bonus for half of the third quarter. The game was fiercely contested and action packed with a number of lead changes. At the end of the third quarter our rim protector Emily picked up her fourth foul which would later prove to be costly.

Emily was taken out of the game at the start of the fourth quarter for a couple of minutes and this seemed to give Holy Cross some life. With five and a half minutes left in the game, Emily was brought back into the game and this had a big impact as Holy Cross had difficulty scoring and the Angels took a 5 point lead with 2 minutes to go. Unfortunately Emily picked up her 5th foul and had to leave the game.

With Emily out of the game Holy Cross attacked the basket with abandon and pulled ahead 42-40. The Angels had the ball with 9 seconds left and a play was set to get the ball to Hannah for the game winning 3, but alas it fell a bit short.

Hannah played a tremendous game and fought hard defensively for loose balls as well as running the offence.

Despite the loss, it was the Angels best game in this young season, certainly it was the most thrilling. It was a successful game as the team learned what they needed to improve to win next time.
