Exhibition Game vs Point Grey went on without Pro Refs

Coach Allan
There were some things that the Angels did well and some areas where it was apparent we need to do some more work. As with some of our other losses this game was a good learning experience.
The senior game that followed the junior game was cancelled, unfortunately as far as the referees were concerned the junior game was cancelled and the senior game was proceeding. After some waiting and wondering we decided to proceed with the junior game with two student referees as it was an exhibition game.

Areas where we need to improve are our transition defence and our zone offence. We simply haven't spent enough time on these areas so we'll have to address that in upcoming practices. I also learned that it's not a good idea to have your daughter officiate her first ever game when your team is playing. Mistakes are bound to be made and since it's her first time and doesn't want to appear to be biased the calls will go against you!

There were some bright spots and hopefully the team can build on it in the future. Turnovers which have plagued the team in recent games were way down as the team has learned I like turnovers for breakfast but not on the basketball court. The team didn't play to their potential and there was a lot of frustration as a result. This led to Emily Silvo Pinto '21 delivering a speech that Mark Messier would have been proud of. Emily showed tremendous leadership at the start of the 4th quarter with her speech and then went out and led the team to shave 8 points off the deficit in the final quarter.

Carmen Accili ' 21 came off the bench with a couple of minutes to go and executed her assignment very well and got open at the left swing spot to hit a trey and a long 2. Hopefully Carmen can be the zone buster the team needs for upcoming games.
