The 2019 Tennis season was very successful for our “Irish Angels”! The combined LFA/Vancouver College team could often be found in Queen Elizabeth Park, enjoying the beautiful sunshine and sending rings of laughter through the air, all while playing some stellar tennis. Although the season seemed to sneak up on the team-- the rain interfering with practices and games-- the group was able to adapt to the changes.
After defeating Sir Winston Churchill, the team proceeded to compete at the Provincials, held at Burnaby Tennis Club. Despite Thursday’s commendable weather, however, Friday’s showers flooded courts, postponed Friday’s afternoon matches, and led to a precautionary shifting of a rainy Saturday’s matches to Friday evening. And yet, throughout the confusion of playing double the matches on a single day, the team remained positive and finished the season on a high note. They finished fourth at BC Tennis Provincials for the second year in a row, beating Semiahmoo, Oak Bay, Pine Tree, and fighting hard against Sentinel and St. George’s/Crofton House.
Many thanks to incredible seniors Tiana Xie '19 (team captain), Crystal Nguyen '19, and Anna Mazurenko '19 for their leadership and enthusiasm on and off the court! Finally, the tennis team is immensely grateful to Senora Espinel and Coach Pat Macken for the time and genuine passion that they put in to make the 2019 Tennis season extraordinary!
Congrats to the LFA/VC Tennis team on a great season, and here’s for more to come!!
