Angels Jane Schiedel '18 and Niamh Philips '21, who are part of of Team Ice Excel (LMSSC), won gold at the BC/Yukon Synchronized Skating Championship 2017 in Surrey in early December. Their success has them ready for their next competition, which will take them to Ontario in early January.
Our LFA Public Speakers have had quite an autumn! In October, Katarina Szulc '19 qualified at the International Public Speaking Competition held in Winnipeg to compete as part of the Canadian team at the World’s Individual Debating and Public Speaking competition to be held in Cape Town, South Africa in April (which is a really big deal). But she wasn't the only Angel to stand out in competitions this fall as both Jeanna Pillainayagam '19 and Asha Mior '20 have qualified for the National Public Speaking Competition to be held in Winnipeg in February.

With Christmas approaching, few will be surprised to hear that our LFA students are out and about, giving back to their community. Just this week, Claire Meehan '20 led the charge, organizing a team of volunteer Angels to help out with the The Lipstick Project at Ronald McDonald House.
A few Saturdays ago, on October 14th, the Little Flower Academy Model United Nations hosted the second iteration of the club’s popular LFAMUN Conference! Over 110 delegates from LFA, Vancouver College and Fraser Heights Academy came together to enjoy a day full of riveting debate and exciting discussion.
Our Senior Volleyball Team capped another wonderful year with a medal at this year's AAA Provincial Championship. The team will be very proud of a hugely successful season that saw them medal in tournaments from the beginning to the end of the season and play some passionate, inspired volleyball in the final tournament of the year.
With our LFA basketball season now underway, it's timely that recent graduate Jessica Hanson '15 was featured in the Province newspaper for her leadership on the UBC Thunderbirds Basketball team. Six LFA Model UN students were winners at PACMUN Hawaii in November! LFA sent 26 students to the Hawaiian Model UN, where they had the privilege of being the first LFA Model UN students to take part in PACMUN in Honolulu this past November. The conference is now in its fourth year and all those who attended are “singing its praises”.

This past Friday and Saturday, the Senior Volleyball Angels played in the AAA Lower Mainland Tournament at McRoberts in Richmond. Though not without some close games and some great competition, our Angels ran the table, going undefeated to claim top spot at the Lower Mainlands.
LFA’s Senior A Field Hockey team recently wrapped up one of its most successful seasons in recent memory. The missed their shot to play for a Provincial title with a goal against in the final minute of the Semi Finals and eventually settled for fourth. While their fourth place finish in BC at the AA Provincial Championships was truly impressive, the season also featured a fourth place finish at the Bridgman Cup and a first place finish at this year’s UBC Tournament.
Congratulations to Morgan Nunez '19 who represented LFA in the Provincial Honour Wind Ensemble last month. Each year the BC Music Educators' Association gives an opportunity to music students from all across the province to audition to be a part of one of the Provincial Instrumental or Choral Groups. After a lengthy audition process, Morgan was selected to perform at the BC Music Educator's Conference Concert as part of the Honour Wind Ensemble this year.
Wonderful sunny weather with snow-capped peaks provided the picturesque backdrop for the VYMUN conference held in Whistler from the 27-29th October this year. 53 capable grade 10 students attended this year’s conference of approximately 500 delegates sponsored by WPGA and LFA won 9 awards.

But there's musicians, athletes, scientists, writers, volunteers, health care professionals and so many more who have also done amazing things in our communities. On a day cold enough for flurries, Ceili McCabe '19 was at her best. Ceili took home the bronze medal! In a field of over 350 runners, it was an exceptionally good run. Our LFA team also delivered, placing 8th overall in BC!
With grads from 1987 to as recent as 2011 and including one current parent, LFA’s annual Careers Day was another success! We are always blessed to have so many willing volunteers come speak to the grade 10, 11, and 12 students and share of their time and experience.
After capping their last regular season game with a straight, three set win against Crofton, the Senior Volleyball Angels headed to the Senior BC Catholics Volleyball Tournament at Notre Dame on Thursday and Friday, hoping to win back-to-back gold medals. In the end, after a great tournament, they'd have to settle for silver.
After an important win over STA to open the Lower Mainland Provincial Championship Qualification Tournament, our Senior A Field Hockey Angels knew that a win or a tie agianst Windsor would all but secure their spot at this year's Provincial Championships. Unsurprisingly, they came out flying and carried the momentum through for a critical draw. With York's win over STA, their spot in the Championship was secured.
LFA's Bantam Volleyball Angels ran the table, going undefeated this weekend on the North Shore at the annual Handsworth Tournament. They ended up against local rival St. Pat's in the tournament championship game and stayed true to their winning ways, clipping St. Pat's 2-0.

The Vancouver Varsity Field Hockey League is turning out to be one of the best competitions for high school field hockey in the whole province, with all three teams vying for the single, direct berth into the 2017 Provincial Championships. Wednesday's game between LFA and York House proved to be another great chapter in this unfolding story.
Making the final four pitted our Senior A Field Hockey Angels against some top teams. After an emotionally draining but very exciting win over Argyle and a dogged effort in a loss to eventual champions Handsworth, we came up against a very athletic Kelowna team in the Bronze final.
LFA's Senior field hockey team continued its impressive run this weekend with a shoot-out win over AAA, north shore Argyle. The win moves the Angels into the semi finals at the annual Bridgman Tournament in Victoria, BC.
The Sr. A Field Hockey Angels were full value this morning, putting in a genuinely great effort and confidently taking a 1-0 victory over a good Glen Eagle team.
LFA played a tired but determined J.L. Crowe in the UBC Tournament championship game. Coming out and playing with poise and focus, the Angels deserved their win in the tournament final.
Our Senior A Field Hockey Angels opened their regular season last night against familiar opposition. In a fast paced game that saw LFA hold an edge in the balance of attack, it actually took until the final seconds for the Angels to draw even. The atmosphere was wonderful, with large numbers of supporters for each team cheering on their girls on a beautiful afternoon for field hockey. When Alison Kuzyk '20 scored the tying goal with mere seconds remaining, the large crowd of LFA supporters absolutely erupted in cheers. It was almost hard to believe that it was just the first league game of the year for all the excitement.

Some people may have heard on the local news about a fire at LFA. Please note that the fire was small and immediately contained. Most importantly, no one was hurt. While there is a little clean up to be done, please be assured that the school will be as normal in September, with classes completely unaffected. In fact, it's unlikely you'll even notice anything has gone on.
On Monday, August 29, 2016, Matthew and Linda Ma passed away as a result of a tragic car accident. Matthew and Linda, parents of alumna, Melilssa (Ma) Ramos ’94 we were very active members of the Little Flower Academy community. They left behind their beloved family: their daughter Melissa, (Alexky Ramos) and three beautiful grandchildren, Anastazya, Annika, and Mattias.
Georgina Chaplin '05 is the Digital Communications Co-ordinator for the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) and the VIFF Year Round Vancity Theatre. We sat down with her to talk about being involved with VIFF.
It is great that so many diverse conferences exist for students interested in Model UN. Recently, 25 LFA Model UN students attended the Model UN UNYOUTH NSW non - competitive conference in Sydney, Australia. It was different from North American conferences but extremely interesting and eye opening for many reasons.
Here are a few thoughts from three grade 12 students who recapped some of the highlights of the conference experience as well as the trip to Sydney and spots in Queensland, including the Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest.

Chloe Kan '18, in Grade 11, has been selected to attend the Wharton Sports Business Academy at the University of Pennsylvania. Chloe was awarded this honor after applying to the summer program. The Wharton Sports Business Academy (WSBA) is highly sought after and very competitive. This program receives over 150 applicants annually.
Our fifth annual Grandparent Day was, again, a blessing for everyone involved. Our little Auditorium was packed to capacity to celebrate Mass and enjoy a performance by our Choral Music Department. With more than 200 grandparents visiting, tea and tours of the school occupied the rest of the morning for many of our girls.

Laryssa Lancaster '21 won the Gold medal in Beam in the "JO7 2003 category" at the 2017 Artistic BC Gymnastics Championships, which were held this past weekend in Port Coquitlam.

In the planning to take our field hockey players back to England this spring, we were in touch with a few LFA alumnae who are now based in the UK. Their participation in our tour made for extra special visits in Canterbury--to play a game with the University of Kent--and in London, where the girls got a "local" tour guide.
Our LFA Touring Team has faced off against two of South West England's top hockey schools yesterday and today, showing they have the ability to play hockey some of the best in their age group.
Our Angels had a wonderful opportunity to play with the University of Kent today. They had wonderful, friendly game with some great, older players who welcomed us with hospitality and kindness.
Our LFA Touring Field Hockey side played extraordinarily well this morning in our first warm-up fixture against St. Lawrence College. Not even 24 hours after landing the 2-1 loss was genuinely well played.
The annual LFA Art show was recently held at the school and Miss Matossian and all her art students put on another dazzling show. Throughout the evening, wide smiles were seen and joyful laughter filled the air as friends, family, alumnae, staff and students crowded the Art Room and adjoining hallways which displayed a wide-range of inventive projects. There was definitely something new and eye-catching to see everywhere you turned, as well as lots of fun art and photography activities to join in on. What a great night celebrating the talents of our creative Angels!

Neat uniforms has offered to sell the remaining LFA stock at a reduced price until the end of this school year.
After the Junior Basketball team dropped their game against Whistler, they found themselves up against McMath Secondary, a team LFA beat earlier this season. The winner would play for bronze; the loser would play for fifth.
A win over a strong Whistler team would have given the Junior Basketball Angels a place in the finals; however, Whislter proved too much on this evening.
The LFA Junior Basketball team put in a dominating perfomance against a game but overmatched Hugh Boyd team. Team play and lightning passing left Boyd befuddled as LFA kept the subs rolling throughout. Great effort Angels! Next up is Whistler in the semis.
LFA overcame Richmond's Cambie Secondary last night in a very quick game. Points went evenly back and forth for the entire game. Sadie Beers '17 hit an incredible eight 3-pointers’s and scored 39 points to pace the Angels. The Angels advance to play Seycove tonight.
Welcoming back Kayla Canama '19 back from injury and assistant coach, Mr. MacKay were good additions for a team that's faced some injury adversity this season.
Ranked the top team in the Seycove Junior Basketball Tournament, LFA's Junior Team powered their way to gold, earning themselves a first-round bye at the Junior Provincial Championships.
For our Junior Baskeball Team, it's another week of success. Fresh off the Gold Medal performance at the LFA tournament there was no let down from this group of Angels.

On her performance with this summer's Provincial Field Hockey team that won silver, Allison Kuzyk '20 has just been identified as a targeted athlete by Field Hockey BC. While field hockey has emerged as her "go-to" sport, she's a multi-sport athlete at LFA and in the community.
Brianna Clark '18 is holding a special benefit concert on Saturday, Janauary 14 at 7:30pm in memory of local piano teacher Doreen Kwee. All proceeds will go to the BC Cancer Society.
This past weekend, Alexa Dodds '20 took top honours for her age group at the International Freeskiers and Snowboarders Association (IFSA) sanctioned Junior Freeride Regional Competition hosted at Whistler Blackcomb.

The Term 1, January Exams schedule has been posted. All students are expected to write these exams. The majority of students will have 1 exam per day but some will have 2 on one day, depending on their course selections.
Our Little Flower Academy Choral Department has organized the first Vancouver Catholic High Schools Choral Festival. The Catholic High Schools Choral Festival will feature the award-winning choirs from Archbishop Carney Regional Secondary School, Holy Cross Regional High School, Little Flower Academy, St. Patrick's Regional Secondary School, St. Thomas Aquinas Regional Secondary and St. Thomas More Collegiate as they gather together in song at 7:00pm, February 16th at St. Andrew's Wesley Church. The concert will close with a massed choir performance conducted by guest conductor, Dinah Helgesson. Ticktes are on sale now.
