9 Fantastic Awards at VYMUN in October, 2025!

From October 24th-26th, Grade 10 Model UN Angels attended their first MUN conference: VYMUN (Vancouver Youth Model United Nations), at UBC and brought back 9 awards!
Special recognition goes to the award winning delegates: Kristina Zubkova (‘28) won Best Delegate on FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) representing Martin Ngoga - Chairman of the Ethics Committee, Krupa Pramod (‘28) won Best Delegate on UNHCR (United Nations Human Rights Council) representing France, Olivia Smiley (‘28) won Best Delegate on UNSC (United Nations Security Council) representing Denmark, Grace Evangelista (‘28) won Outstanding Delegate on WHO (World Health Organization) representing Indonesia, Sylvia Xie (‘28) won Outstanding Delegate on ISC (International Science Committee), Marisa MacAulay (‘28) won Honourable Mention on UNHCR (United Nations Human Rights Council) representing Democratic Republic of the Congo, Audrey Yung (‘28) won Best Position Paper on FCC (Fictional Crisis Committee) representing Donna Lestrange, Emma Yung (‘28) won Best Position Paper on ISC (International Science Committee) representing Japan, Michelle Kam (‘28) won Best Position Paper on DISEC (Disarmament and International Security Committee) representing Russia. These are impressive wins!
Prior to the conference, delegates prepared diligently for the conference to research and write a position paper, outlining their country’s stance and solutions they would like to see implemented.  During the conference, these beginner delegates found their confidence in each and every moderated or unmoderated caucus. Emma Yung recalled that though it was daunting as a beginner delegate, she eventually “felt more comfortable and started raising [her] placard more often, and being the first one to speak up”. Others enjoyed the unstructured aspect of Model UN debate, known as an unmoderated caucus. Krupa Pramod cited this as the “best part, in [her] opinion”, as this “allowed [them] to share different perspectives” and “learn a lot of new concepts regarding international relations”. Eventually, the debate progressed to potential solutions for their committees’ respective topics. During committee sessions, according to Kristina Zubkova, delegates had to “look at the issue from many perspectives” as “the people were split in differing blocs and each side wanted something of their own”.
Aside from the diplomatic aspect of Model UN, delegates enjoyed the fun parts, such as the delegate social. Labelled as the “highlight of VYMUN” by Grace Evangelista, the social on the first night of the conference allowed delegates to have fun, notably when the “LFA girls sang and danced together, blasting karaoke”. On the last day, delegates engaged in a fun crisis session, unleashing creative solutions and impromptu speeches. Michelle Kam stated the crisis experience was “an intense challenge”, but it “strengthened [her] ability to maintain diplomacy, propose compromises, and communicate effectively in high-stakes circumstances”. This conference was indeed very memorable for these first-time delegates, who brought home many “fond memories” and “enlightening experiences”, said Sylvia Xie. VYMUN, over the span of three short days, taught these new delegates diplomacy and brought about fresh perspectives on world issues, along with the confidence and voice to speak their mind. Great work representing LFA, Grade 10 Model UN Angels!
