This year's first week of school was highlighted by celebrations for the school's 90th Anniversary. Sisters of St. Ann joined us throughout Thursday's events, marking the occasion of the Sisters' completion at LFA as well as our anniversary year.
Several Sisters came from Victoria on Thursday, joining us first for our opening Liturgy. The Mass was celebrated by both Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB and our school Chaplain, Father Eugenio Aloisio (who we know better as Father Gino). Archbishop Miller's homily included a moving tribute to the pioneering and independent spirit and charism of the Sisters of St. Ann and how meaningful that was to the culture and success of LFA.
What is normally a busy Welcome Back BBQ was truly an extraordinary event. It was, in every sense, a packed house. People spilled from the Auditorium into the courtyard. The Dining Hall heaved with people. Children played in the Sr. Kelly Gym and ran amongst the crowd. Sisters of St. Ann mingled with students, staff, parents, grandparents, former parents, and many younger siblings. We had more than 150 alumnae from every decade join us, as well as their many children of every age.
In the end, we estimate more than 1300 people joined us Thursday night. The live band Posing til Closing did a wonderful job of engaging the large crowd. Cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones and a huge ice cream bar meant kids (of every age) did not want for sugary treats. Our anniversary cocktail, "The Little Rose" (and its mocktail cousin), crafted by our very own Julia Diakow '08, was also a huge hit at the bar.
It was a joy to have our community come together to celebrate. Thank you to everyone who braved the parking and made it out. We were left with a sense of community that defines what makes LFA such a special place.
