LFA Pianist Excels in The Royal Conservatory of Music Program
LFA's Valerie Mok ’18 is the recipient of the 2016 National Gold Medal for the Licentiate of The Royal Conservatory of Music (LRCM) in Piano Performance.
Valerie attended the RCM Convocation and Gold Medal Awards Ceremony at UBC Chan Centre for Performing Arts on November 6th. She was awarded First Class Honours with Distinction and, impressively, earned the distinction of being the highest-ranking Licentiate graduate in Canada.
Valerie studied piano under the guidance of David Vandereyk. She also received her ARCT Diploma in Piano Performance (First Class Honours with Distinction) in 2014.
The LRCM is the culmination of the Royal Conservatory of Music Examinations program. The examination is evaluated as a professional concert performance. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a masterful command of the instrument and communicate an understanding of stylistic characteristics and structural elements of each repertoire selection with interpretive insight and a mature musical personality. Two years of preparation after received the ARCT Diploma in Piano Performance is recommended before attempting the LRCM in Piano Performance examination.
