Throughout their long history in BC, the Sisters of St Ann have helped move health care and education forward in our province by determining the areas of greatest need and deciding on the best use of resources. As a result, the Sisters founded strong organizations with clear visions and plans for sustainability. Following their example, Little Flower’s Board of Directors established a Strategic Planning Committee to establish a clear plan for the medium-term. The first step was to consult the community of students, parents, alumnae, staff, Board, Sisters of St. Ann and the Archdiocese. From that process, and with the help of an independent expert, Little Flower’s Strategic Plan emerged.
The feedback received was overwhelmingly positive. The consultant was taken aback at the level of consistency in the statistics and lauded us for what she interpreted as exceptionally robust organizational health. Our sense and application of mission and the quality delivery of education stood out generally as what we do best. Specifically, Little Flower’s most identified strengths included academic excellence, the value of an all-girls education, the feeling of safety at the school, the good value we offer as an independent school education, and the challenge we offer our students.
Although the feedback did not highlight areas of critical concern, it did help us determine some areas that we can look to improve. Since developing the Plan, we have been looking at ways to invest more of our resources in student counseling, increase opportunities for communication, ensure that the funding is adequate to maintain the school and keep tuition as low as possible, offer a more diverse course selection, and build school spirit. You may have already noticed changes in some of these areas. For instance, significant investment has been made in Counselling services in the past eighteen months. In addition, the recently established Little Flower Academy Foundation has begun to build endowments to ensure our school’s sustainability.
For all the specifics, it is clear that the school is treasured by our community and people are sincerely invested in maintaining its Catholicity, academic success, and traditions. The Strategic Plan ensures that the school can continue to build on its strengths by focusing on four key strategic priorities that focus on our Catholic identity, an exceptional learning environment, community engagement, and organizational strength and resilience. All of this is expanded upon in the Imagine Our Future: Little Flower Academy Strategic Plan 2011-2016 (link to PDF). It is an exciting time for the school community. We look forward to celebrating the many successes of our students and alumnae and building a loving community where girls continue to receive an exceptional, well-rounded, Catholic education.
