Let’s dream for a moment. For yourself— or maybe for a child or grandchild—you can pick any university in the world to study anything you want.
Money, logistics, family and visas are all looked after and you need only pick the university you want. Where would you go? You might choose Oxford or Cambridge for the college system of tiny classes, the fabulous libraries and the stunning historical buildings. Harvard or Yale or MIT are obvious possibilities for the access to top scholars in our society and the incredible labs and research resources. In Canada, McGill or UofT or UBC immediately come to mind for their modern campuses, array of courses and research opportunities with top Canadian professors.
Though you’ve “chosen” your university for reasons relating to academics, the experience, programs, resources, or maybe even history, you almost certainly didn’t choose it because it had a robust endowment fund. Yet, with any of these institutions, it is their endowments that enable the exceptional by providing essential resources to their programs. Make no mistake, the universities that consistently come out on top, worldover, have amongst the healthiest endowment resources too.
It is the same for secondary schools. Whether it is in-class resources, technology, library holdings, extracurricular opportunities or bursaries for those who might not otherwise be able to afford tuition, endowment is a source of income that provides in perpetuity. As LFA receives limited government grants and no church or Archdiocesan funding, endowmentrepresents a critical funding source for our future well-being.
Keeping an eye on the future and with the continued expectation of providing an exceptional, wellrounded education that opens doors for the young women who study at LFA, the Little Flower Academy Foundation has been recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency and will govern our very own endowment fund. Two significant gifts to the LFA endowment fund in the past six weeks—one from an alumna and one from a parent of an alumna—will begin to generate resources that will fund bursaries and the religion department this coming year.
We are at the beginning of this journey and alumnae will play a significant role in our future. The LFA Foundation represents the opportunity for a legacy gift: a gift that will leave a lasting impact on the school community. Supporting endowment is simple and is a safe, secure (and often with tax advantages) way to benefit the LFA community as part of your estate planning.
