Members from our LFA Chamber Choir recently traveled to Nashville, TN to participate in the WorldStrides Heritage Festival for high school instrumental and choral groups. After a nearly perfect performance, our LFA Chamber Choir received a Gold 1st Place ranking as the top women’s choir in their category. Additionally, our LFA Angels were awarded the Highest Scoring Choral Group in the festival, as well as the Adjudicator’s Award, for receiving an average score of 95 of higher.
This year's Nashville music tour was filled with so many awe inspiring moments. Dubbed Music City USA, our chamber choir singers had the opportunity to participate in some of the most incredible musical experiences which contributed to their success at the festival.
The opportunity to record at the legendary RCA Studio B was an inspiring moment for all of our singers. Being able to sing in the same room where legends such as Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, and the Everley Brothers once recorded so many of their well known hits was a a humbling experience for our choir girls. RCA Studio B became famous in the 1960s for being a part of the Nashville Sound, and also reminded us of the impact Nashville has had on the development of popular music.
One of our most favourite moments from our tour to Nashville was our visit with the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia's. During our time with the sisters, we were introduced to the order of Domenican Sisters as well as St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music. Touring the beautiful convent and motherhouse at St. Cecilia's was also a reminder of our own connection to the Sisters of St. Ann. Many of our girls enjoyed visiting with the sisters, performing for them as well as hearing the Schola of nuns sing for us.
As we prepared for our festival performance, our chamber choir singers were able to work with assistant professor of choral music, Dr. Susan Kelly at Tennessee State University. Her work with our singers gave us the tools to continue to bring our music to the next level which resulted in a successful festival performance.
Our evenings were filled with music as well. Our own LFA Angels were treated to a private performance by the Vanderbilt Melodores, an all male collegiate a capella group who recently won "The Sing Off", NBC's television show hosted by Nick Lachey. We saw some of country music's leading stars at the famous Grand Ole Opry and our tour ended with the festival awards ceremony held at the Nashville Palace, where many of our girls kicked off their heels and spent the evening line dancing to a live country music band.
Congratulations to our LFA Chamber Choir for all of your hard work this year. You continue to inspire others with your spirit, love and music!
