Angels Qualify For AA Provincial Championships

The sub-plot to this game was the absence of two of Allison Kuzyk '20 and Eleanor Morrison '19, who were taking part in a Canadian Junior National ID Camp. Missing our top scorer and a main-stay at the centre half could have been an excuse for a drop in play. Rather, the team responded with an extraordinary collective effort. 

Nicole Shi '18 stabalized the middle of the pitch, joined by Ava MacFarlane '20 and Mikayla Stelling '21, who both gave incredible speed and stamina to the centre of the pitch. Naomi Shi '18 filled in at centre forward and was able to create loads of chances. In fact, were it not for some truly amazing goalkeeping for Windsor, LFA would like have won this be several goals. There were a couple of stunning saves on Nicole, Naomi and Gabby Lee '19 in particular. 

For nearly 40 minutes, LFA surged forward. Our attack was dynamic and searching. Our wingers were finding all sorts of seems to exploit, but we just didn't have an answer for the opposition goalie. With key players out, several players were forced into different roles. Mira Teoli '18, for example, was pulled back from the forward line and did great work in the midfield. 

In the last few minutes, we lost the momentum slightly, forcing a bit of pressure on our defence and some good saves by Athena Pucovsky '19. The 0-0 tie was much deserved and maybe a little kind to Windsor. As Windsor qualiified later in the day, it's likely we will see them again at Provincials for a rematch. That will be a game to circle as the teams are well matched and played some great hockey.
