Volleyball Silver at Senior BC Catholics

Alexis Fong '19
After capping their last regular season game with a straight, three set win against Crofton, the Senior Volleyball Angels headed to the Senior BC Catholics Volleyball Tournament at Notre Dame on Thursday and Friday, hoping to win back-to-back gold medals. In the end, after a great tournament, they'd have to settle for silver.
In the pool-play matches, the Angels cruised through the competition, winning all four games in straight sets and finishing first in their pool. For the first game playoff game on Friday, LFA played Archbishop Carney, winning in straight sets yet again with the scores of 25-12 and 25-15. In the semis, the Angels played St. Thomas Aquinas. STA had just finished a hard-fought battle with St. Pats so they were a little tired. The Angels capitalized on STA’s mistakes and won in straight sets. LFA was heading to the finals.

After the bronze medal game, the time had come for the much anticipated gold medal match. STM and LFA came head-to-head once again. Friday was not the Angels lucky day, though, as STM won in straight sets by their sound defence, counter attack and ball placement never giving LFA a chance to gain any momentum. Although the Angels didn’t get the gold this year, everyone was still proud of what they accomplished. A huge congratulations to Jessica Goodridge ’18 for being chosen as a tournament all-star and the tournament MVP. The season is not over yet as this week, the Senior Angels get ready for their playoff games at STM and a tournament in Campbell River on November 3rd and 4th.
