Twenty six students recently attended PacificMUN in Vancouver on 23rd- 25th February, 2018. It was LFA’s first time in attendance at this relatively new Vancouver Model UN conference and the overall experience was praised by all. Additionally, we also won 6 awards!
Every student showed great engagement and participation and there were many LFA students who had some significant break though moments on committee. The ability to learn to trust one’s opinions and be confident enough to voice them is one of the most important skills that MUN develops. It was wonderful to witness many students speaking out at this conference, which had some very interesting and stimulating committee choices. In addition, this LFA delegation was very well prepared having done thorough research and having written perceptive position papers. It is correct to say that all 26 students gained much knowledge about the empowerment of women, indigenous rights, resource exploitation in space, the issues of the Middle East or the issues of corruption and economics facing the International Olympic committee among other things. Well done Model UN Angels!
Special congratulations go to the following girls who won the following awards-
Bridget McConnell '20 who won the Best Delegate on her Historic Joint Crisis Committee (JCC) discussing the Pelopennisian War
Asha Mior '20 who represented Denmark and won the Best Delegate on the UNSPACE Committee
Elise Lafleur '18 who represented Lebanon on the Arab League and won the Outstanding Delegate Award
Cindy Gau '19 who represented Belgium on UN Women and won Honorable Mention
Christy Anna Chung '19 who represented Cuba on the UNPFII (the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues) and won Honorable Mention
Rosemary Vayalikunnel'19 who represented the USA on the IOC (International Olympic Committee) and won Honorable Mention
I look forward to observing the future progress of these excellent students at the upcoming spring conferences – Harvard in Madrid in March and CAHSMUN in Vancouver in April where some will be in attendance!
