LFA Campus Development

Dear Friends,

Little Flower Academy is long established as one of the very best schools in British Columbia. Confident in the extraordinary outcomes our students will achieve, we’ve focused on building an educational program that is immersive and experiential—a high school experience that fosters self confidence and prepares girls for whatever it is they choose to do in life.

As we close in on our school centenary, we have a bold vision to take us into our next hundred years. We will align the quality of our programs and the aspirations of our students with contemporary learning spaces for nearly every subject we teach. All of our programs will be taught in spaces specifically designed for them. Every child at every grade will see profound benefits for generations to come.

Looking forward, both our programs and our campus will be a leading light in girls', Catholic education in Canada.

The first development phase will focus significantly on our physical academic environment. Design is focused entirely on improving the student experience and learning outcomes, while strengthening the unique culture of Little Flower Academy. Our new academic building, built on the north side of campus to all but eliminate disruption during the development, will introduce approximately 80,000 square feet and will emphasize flexible spaces, flexible tools, and be fit for purpose.
Classrooms: The average classroom size will increase by more than 25%. With more classroom space, as well as customized breakout spaces and learning commons, each student will have access to both independent study options and collaborative learning spaces not currently available.

Counselling Centre: Counselling space will more than double, with the design allowing for more specialized learning and assessment, as well better privacy for those moments when it’s needed.

Science Lab: The addition of a fourth science lab will permit a higher degree of flexibility in our course scheduling, giving students more options to pursue the courses they seek. The lab will be designed and outfitted knowing that nearly half of our students will study science at their post secondary school of choice.

Food Lab: Brand new kitchens will be built on the main floor of our new building. Their presence will not just be blessing to the Food Studies program, designed with a bigger picture in mind, they will be key to the many community events that we host.

Auditorium: A modern auditorium allowing for day-to-day school that easily transitions into a professional theatre space. We will also introduce large rehearsal/teaching spaces, built with acoustics and the needs of music and drama in mind as well as dressing rooms and accessible storage for costumes, props and sets. Fine and Performing Arts will see a nearly 200% increase in dedicated space.

STEAM Lab: While the new building will see a modest increase in STEAM and makerspace, by far the biggest transition is how the STEAM tools are managed in the design to allow for integration across curriculum. The STEAM lab and the introduction of an accessible STEAM hub will become a focal point on our Math and Science floor.

Textiles and STEAM Integration: The textiles side of what was traditionally ‘home economics’ will migrate over to our STEAM hub, which is an important progression and relevant to fashion and textiles at university and in business.

The transformation that will take place is full of intention. Larger classrooms, a centralized STEAM hub, space for the arts, these are not just decorative choices, they are a commitment to the pursuit of excellence; a loud and clear message to our students that here at LFA, they can discover all that they are called to be.

The goal is to create an environment where our students can flourish. A place where their creativity and curiosity are not limited by the spaces they occupy, but amplified. As curriculum evolves and the needs of our students change, a dynamic learning environment is required to stay on the leading edge of education. Our new academic building, with its integrated layout, break out spaces, and purpose-driven design, will serve as a truly dynamic learning environment – one that caters to the natural curiosity of our students, promoting social bonding, innovation, and discovery.

Ultimately, what matters most is the development of each individual student and the full realization of their potential. In seeing through this generational project, we will pass on a stronger LFA to the students and graduates of tomorrow. A school more attuned to the needs of its students, and a school better equipped to serve the emotional, educational, and spiritual growth of each student.

In truth, the delivery of an LFA education is only possible because of the generous support of community members like you. Since the humble beginnings of LFA, our ability to educate and enrich the lives of young women has been a community effort. As LFA approaches its centenary, our school’s most defining legacy is the 100 years of relationships we have forged.

The students and staff at Little Flower Academy are privileged to live, learn, play, and worship on the unceded and traditional territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We are grateful for the stewardship and traditional knowledge, passed down through ancestors, which have sustained the lands we love.
