No. There is no increase in student enrollment planned with the new project. We believe our small school size allows us to nurture a strong school culture and provide an enriched, personalized educational experience for all our students. Upon completion of the building project, LFA will maintain its current student enrollment.
No. The 20-month build schedule will not impact the existing academic program, as the new build will take place on our existing field, tennis courts, and staff parking lot. Only once the new building is completed will the 1950's wing be deconstructed to give way for enough parking and a synthetic outdoor practice field. We have plans in place to use external facilities for the extra-curricular athletics programming that uses the fields and tennis courts.
We will break ground in the fall of 2025 with an anticipated 20-month build schedule that will have the new building ready for operation in September 2027 for the 2027-2028 school year.
LFA's Flourish campaign fund approximately half the cost of this extraordinary project. With no government funding for an independent Catholic school, LFA will look to those who care for us most to help us realize this project. The school has no debt and has managed to save approximately 25% of the project cost over the past decade. The remainder of the project will be financed.
The new academic wing will be situated on W. King Edward, tucked in behind the beautiful row of mature trees that currently border the north side of our property. The preservation of those trees is a priority.
The addition of a school entrance on W. King Edward will allow students travelling by transit or using the W. King Edward drop-off zone to enter the school directly from W. King Edward. We anticipate this new entrance will reduce foot and vehicle traffic on residential streets around the school.
A replacement athletic field will be built on the south end of the campus, along Nanton Ave. Similar to our current field, the all-weather pitch will be too small for athletic competition. It's sole use will be daytime Physical and Health Education classes and LFA athletic team practices. There is no plan to install lighting for after-hours use.
Little Flower remains committed to working with our neighbouring schools to keep the streets around our schools safe for everyone. The three-school traffic management plan will remain in effect throughout construction and will be maintained after the completion of the new building. This plan provides LFA with two drop-off zones adjacent to the school property: one on the south side of W. King Edward and one on the north side of Nanton Ave. With a new student entrance on W. King Edward, students will have easier access to public transit and arterial streets.
The new parking lot will be located along the south side of the campus, along Nanton Ave. The redesigned parking lot will provide additional on-campus parking spaces and more efficient use of space. As the parking lot will have a single driveway, the size of our Nanton Avenue drop-off zone will be increased, which should reduce congestion at the intersection of Nanton and Alexandra during peak times.
