Every autumn, Bettina Sy '97 (from our Alumnae Executive) works with the school to bring in successful alumnae and their colleagues from their professional network. It gives our students an opportunity to hear from--and ask questions of--successful female role models from a wide array of industries.
This year's Careers Day included women working in real estate development, health care, fashion and retail, marketing communications, policing, human resources, engineering, mental health and psychology, environmental engineering, and public relations. While most were alumnae, we had a few guests--women from our alumnae network and a current parent.
The day involves all students. Grade 8's had a speaker in the Auditorium. Grade 9's were taking part in the province wide, "Take Your Child to Work Day". The students in the senior curriculum and with sights on university (Grades 10 through 12) signed up in advance for those speakers who they were most interested in seeing.
With keen and able presenters, the dynamic in the classrooms demonstrated the maturity of our student body. The students were fantastic. Engaged and asking questions: some simple and exploratory, with other questions really showing a deeper interest in the field of work.
It was a wonderful afternoon that reflects the culture of care and involvement and professionalism that is at the heart of the school's culture. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to take part.
