New Alumnae Executive Chair

We would like to announce that Bettina Sy '97 has volunteered to take on the role of Chair of the Alumnae Executive. Bettina is one of our longest serving Executive members and is well known for her leadership in delivering an amazing Careers Day year in, year out.  In welcoming Bettina, we would also like to extend our thanks to Fiona (Austin) Rintoul '96, who has been instrumental in growing the alumnae event program during her term as Chair. Thankfully, she's staying on with the Executive, focusing on helping with the volunteer coordination.
The Alumnae Association Executive has come a long way over a fairly short period of time and owes its success to years of committed women who have given time and energy to building the LFA community.

When Fiona took over as Chair from Mary Ann Mulhern '81 three years ago, the Executive was vibrant and had really strong numbers. Fiona injected her usual passion and focused her energy on developing events and expanding the alumnae magazine, (now called) La Petite Fleur.

The Executive transformed how it approached events and we've seen an astonishing uptake in alumnae participation. The Grape Escape has sold out three years in a row (and we're on again this year: Friday, November 14); we've introduced the Fall Festival (which will include soccer, basketball, volleyball, field hockey and a huge BBQ this year on Friday, September 26); Home for the Holidays has seen more than 100 alumnae two years in a row; we've run several pub nights; and we've kept the spring event varied and run our last two spring events (Curling and Celebrity Chef) at full capacity.

La Petite Fleur has also undergone a metamorphasis. A four page folded newsletter with a handful of stories only a few short years ago has given way to a full magazine. The Executive now forms the backbone of the volunteer writers who make it possible and, with their efforts, we've been blessed to increasingly have volunteer alumnae writers beyond the Executive.

One of Fiona's special traits is her ability to ensure people feel welcomed and know their involvement is valued. For this reason, we are very excited that she's going to continue to help build the alumnae program by targeting her involvement with our volunteers. Be assured that you'll hear from Fiona over the coming months as the Executive starts to expand the involvement of our Class Reps.

Bettina's goals for the Executive in the coming years reflects the priorities of the Executive volunteers. We'll continue to build on the foundation of our event program that is clearly fun and engaging. And, the magazine theme for the fall should produce one of our most interesting issues yet! One can expect, too, that Bettina's amazing tech savvy, will translate all sorts of opportunity for the alumnae section of the website and our social media communications.

Do you want to get involved?
Volunteers make the alumnae program tick! We're looking to recruit volunteers for roles like class reps, volunteer writers, and event organizers/helpers. Frankly, we have loads of fun with nearly everything we do and it really is rewarding to help foster and build the LFA community. Please get in touch with either Bettina or Fiona to talk about how you can get involved!
