Angels Win Silver At Wildcat-Vikings Showdown

The young Angels faced a skilled grade 12-laden Lord Byng team in the finals Friday night. Keeping it close and playing some great basketball, they'll be very proud of their silver and the Christmas gift they were able to direct to Covenant House for their second-place performance.
Off the opening tip off, Ashley Velasco’s ‘19 tight defense opened up scoring opportunities for Raichel Feenan’18, Maya Landero-Van ‘20 and Ceili McCabe’19. As the game progressed the Grey Ghosts well-executed motion plays took over the game, giving them multiple consecutive threes and scoring off rebounds. In the second half the Angels mounted a comeback by playing tough defense. Scoring off quick steals and with sharp passing play, they were able to pull within 7 points.

In the final moments, the Byng’s MVP hit two tough clutch threes to seal the game 69-56. This was an invaluable learning experience for Ava Macfarlane ‘20, Allison Kuzyk ‘20, Sharon Luk ‘19 and Isabelle Jalandoon ‘19 who are adjusting to increased physically and the pace of Senior ball. They've also earned lots of court time for their fantastic effort. Congrats to Ceili McCabe ‘19, chosen as team MVP. Although an injured Alexis Fong ‘19 could not play in the tournament, she represented LFA in the three point shooting contest. After a slow start in the early rounds she got hot and finished just outside the top third of all shooters.

Perhaps most importantly, the second place finish enabled the Angels to receive a $200 cheque for a charity of their choice. They directed their gift to Covenant House.
