Model UN Fall News

Mrs. Julie Mills
There are a number of very interesting Model UN conferences this fall for LFA students.
The LFA Model UN leaders have been hard at work (even in the summer) preparing for the second LFAMUN one day conference occurring on Saturday October 14th. There will be five exciting and varied committees for LFAMUN and the conference is open to students from LFA, VC and Fraser Heights (which has an excellent MUN program at their school). At present we have approximately 110 delegates signed up!

If interested, please check out the LFAMUN website at lfamun2017.wixsite.com/site to see committees and topics and the bios of the Secretariat who have taken the helm so ably and those of the other leaders who will be on the on the dais of each committee or crisis staff. This conference will be a very educational experience for both leaders and delegates alike. The LFA leaders with their hard work and dedication have set a very professional tone and it will no doubt prove to be a most rewarding and exciting experience for all.

LFAMUN will prepare students for upcoming local and away conferences starting with VYMUN in Whistler in October. The very popular VYMUN (or the WPGA MUN) on 27-29th October will see 53 very capable grade 10 students participating in their first conference outside of LFAMUN. Their committees and countries have already been assigned and research has begun in preparation for their debut into the world of MUN.

In November, 26 students from grades 10-12 will take part in PACMUN in Honolulu. It is organized predominantly by students from both Stanford University in California and the University of Hawaii. This conference is now in its sixth year and it has a very good reputation.

It has again been wonderful to witness the enthusiasm and conscientiousness of students in the MUN Club this fall. The Secretariat for LFAMUN have been outstandingly co-operative and hard working in planning for the conference-attending meetings, answering many emails and reaching out to students during the registration process. Similarly, the leaders on each committee have worked diligently and written excellent background guides. Lastly, both the grade 10 new "MUNers" and the volunteer grade 9 students who will be pages at LFAMUN have made me smile. They drop by my room to ask about committees, topics and their roles showing me the best of LFA effort!

Thank you to all in the club for your impressive and fantastic attitudes! You are the best and good luck at all upcoming conferences!
