Badminton Captures Provincial Silver

The team began the year with several circuit games against schools such as Crofton/Saint George’s, Carver Christian and St. John’s. After numerous exhibition games, it came down to one deciding match against the Crofton/Saint George’s team, with the winner advancing to the Lower Mainland tournament. The Lower Mainland tournament is typically the one route to qualify for the Provincial Championships. In a nail-biting match, the Angels pulled through and brought home a well-deserved win and qualified for the Lower Mainland Tournament. 

However, in a qualification oddity, one week before the Lower Mainland tournament, the captains were suddenly notified that another team had dropped out of the Provincial Championships, and that our team had been awarded a direct entry into the tournament as the number-one-ranked independent school. We had qualified for provincials! 

Fast forward to the first day of the provincial championships; the practices leading up to provincials had been filled with blood, sweat and tears. Though our qualifying pool was filled with some of the toughest competitors, the whole team was ready to attack. The first day ended in triumph, finishing top in the pool and advanced as second seed into the Top 8 of the tournament. The second day was no different, as the team battled its way into the finals. The team had remained undefeated for the entire tournament, and ready to face the four-year reigning provincial champions. 

The final matches were some of the most intense and gruelling games our teammates had ever played. Unfortunately, VC/LFA fell just short of the win. 

Nevertheless, receiving the silver medals at the BC Provincial Championship level proved to be the best result the LFA/VC team has achieved since 2012. 

The team would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the teachers who so generously gave their time to make this incredible season a reality; to Mrs.Little, Mr.Ballard and Mme Stanley. We would also like to thank our coach Ringo Tang. 

The team would also like to recognize the captains and managers of the team; Fiona Li, Maddie Buss and Rhonda Tam, and managers Caroline Wang and Francesca Lim.
