Little Flower Academy is excited to celebrate this year's Distinguished Alumnae Inductees: Mary Margaret MacKinnon '75 and Kathleen S. Jayme '06! Mary Margaret and Kathleen are being inducted for their unwavering commitment and drive to bringing empathy and humanity to their work, and in doing so, fostering understanding and uplifting the voices of others.
Mary Margaret MacKinnon ‘75
Mary Margaret MacKinnon ‘75 is a dedicated lawyer and mediator with nearly four decades of practice in civil litigation and dispute resolution. She has approached her career with a humane and faith-first approach that is truly exemplary.

Mary Margaret received her BA from the University of British Columbia, her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Victoria, and her Master of Laws from Cambridge University. She was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1986 and in 2021 she received the prestigious King’s Counsel designation, a provincial honour that recognizes contributions made that strengthen the functioning of the legal system. Nominated by her peers for the designation, it is an affirmation of the significant contributions Mary Margaret made to the judicial system throughout her career.

Working as an Associate at Guild Yule and Company, Mary practiced civil and insurance litigation, appearing before all levels of court in British Columbia. As a Partner at the company, she led complex civil litigation and insurance law cases with a focus on dispute resolution, while maintaining a respected reputation for professionalism, client advocacy, and integrity. In 2024, Mary Margaret began her own mediation practice, MMM Mediations, where she conducts mediation in civil, commercial, and insurance matters, applying her extensive legal experience to facilitate fair, efficient resolutions.

For more than 30 years, Mary Margaret acted as general counsel to the Archdiocese of Vancouver and the Catholic school board of the archdiocese. She also has advised the Diocese of Victoria, Whitehorse, and MacKenzie-Fort Smith. She has been involved in discussions with the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops and worked extensively on Catholic legal issues both in Canada and the United States. Core to Mary Margaret’s work in these fields has been lecturing on matters of the intersection between law and faith.

By upholding truth, justice, and humanity throughout her career, Mary Margaret has crafted a legacy whose impact and example will endure.

Kathleen S. Jayme ’06
Kathleen S. Jayme ’06 is an award-winning filmmaker whose work in documentary filmmaking has revealed the humanity behind headlines and invited audiences to see her subjects with a deeper and fuller understanding.

Kathleen’s filmmaking journey began at Little Flower Academy, where she always had a camera in her hand. As president of the student council, Kathleen and her team created films for school assemblies. Her classmates were her first stars, her first audience, and remain some of her biggest fans. It was in the halls of LFA that she first discovered the power of storytelling to bring people together.

After studying Film Production at the University of British Columbia and working at the National Film Board of Canada, Kathleen made the leap to direct her own films. Her debut film, Finding Big Country (2018), reintroduced reclusive former NBA player Bryant Reeves to the public with empathy and care. In The Grizzlie Truth (2022), she sought answers about the departure of the Vancouver Grizzlies and persuaded NBA star Steve Francis to share his story on camera for the first time.

In ESPN’s legendary series “30 for 30”, she co-directed I’m Just Here for the Riot (2023), a film which examined not only the 2011 Vancouver hockey riots but the impact of online social shaming. In Naomi Osaka: The Second Set (2025), she followed the four-time Grand Slam champion through motherhood and return to competition, exploring strength, vulnerability, and the power of women redefining success. As a female director in a traditionally male-dominated genre, Kathleen continues to expand the space for women’s stories in sport, including projects on the 2025 Canadian Women’s Rugby Team and Canada’s first WNBA team, the Toronto Tempo.

Throughout her career, Kathleen has demonstrated that her vocation is both a privilege and a responsibility. By leading with empathy, courage, and authentic human connection, she has created deeply impactful work that has not only garnered accolades but will continue to inspire and leave a lasting legacy.
